A Solo Travel Guide for Northeast: Before You Plan Your Trip

Solo travel may be different from a regular trip where you are alone and have to prepare everything, so before going, check everything that you need, sometimes having a companion is nice and feels safe but in other words, no one to take care of it and free and can visit many places. Some people don’t feel safe when traveling alone. Yes, we cannot judge them. Especially for girls, you should be careful and must not eat things from strangers. You should prepare everything beforehand. One should keep in mind the saying  ‘Prevention is better than cure’ and be very careful in each and everything before stepping out.

Five Things to Remember On Your Solo Trip to Northeast

Here are the five points you should keep in mind when going on a solo trip to the Northeast.

  1. Research the Place You Want to Explore

You must do some research on this carefully before you come out. When you are alone, firstly, you must check the weather in this place whether it is safe for girls or not. Some places are not safe for girls, especially when you are alone. When we are too excited, we sometimes do not care what will come next; we just always go with the flow. So this is one of the reasons most people meet with an accident. If you go shopping, try to reach home before it’s late. In most places, nightlife is not so safe.

  1. Pack Your Bag Well

While packing your stuff, think carefully about what you will need depending on the places you are to visit. First, keep in mind that some parts of the northeast are hilly regions, and mostly, the weather is cold and windy. If you are planning to visit Meghalaya or Arunachal Pradesh, you will need warm clothes to keep you warm. These two places are extremely cold compared to other parts of the northeast. Remember you are traveling alone, so do not forget to bring a first aid kit in case of an accident. If you are traveling by road, do not forget to bring these items: power bank, torchlight, sanitary pads for the ladies, toiletries, blankets, eatables, etc. And if you are carrying cash, you must be careful to keep it safe. It may be suggested that you wear a small pouch that can be hidden inside your clothes for safety. It may also be wise to carry a foldable umbrella with you in times of rain. Do not wear gold jewelry and other valuable things.

  1. Check their Electric Power Situation

The best way is to check their electric power and communication beforehand to avoid problems such as power blackouts, roadblocks, landslides, etc. Especially in the northeast during the rainy season there used to be heavy landslides and in many parts, roadblocks are causing so many problems. If you have an important meeting or are engaged in anything, check before you go to avoid all these problems.

  1. Look for the Accommodation Online

You can check on the Internet about the hotels, and some hotels will give discounts according to your budget. You can easily check out websites like Make My Trip and many more. It is suggested that OYO hotels may be comfortable for female travelers to check-in. OYO Hotels are affordable and safe as well. Just go according to your budget; many hotels are cheaper than 5-star hotels and where the service is good. One more thing for females: if you are alone in a hotel, be very careful near strangers, never let them know that you are alone, and never eat anything given by strangers just to stay safe.

  1. Read the Hotel Rules and Regulations Carefully

Checking everything before check-in is important as every hotel has different rules and timing for checkout. If your flight is early in the morning and the standard checkout time is 11 am, in this case, speak to the manager or the receptionist clearly that you need to check at that time or else you will be in trouble and may miss your flight. So, before checking out of the hotel, discuss clearly with the manager.

Wrapping It Up

Solo travel is traveling alone and exploring some new places alone, which is easier and more comfortable, and sometimes it’s better than having someone by our side. If you are alone, it’s better to bring a novel to read and headphones so you can listen to music to avoid feeling bored. It is suggested that you have a good nap before you travel, for sleeping is sometimes not safe when you are alone. And if you are going by train, do not bring your valuables and a lot of cash with you, for on a train there are many robbers and pickpockets. Before you sleep, check everything carefully; put your mobile phone, purse, etc. under your pillow.

Do not be too friendly to others, always remember that you are alone and you need to care about your safety, do not drink anything given to you by strangers, and always carry drinking water, which you will need till the end of your journey. Regarding the dress code, always wear clothes that will cover your body, and do not wear sexy dresses as this might attract the unwanted attention of men who might not be well-behaved. Talk to them only when necessary. Lastly, once you explore the places, you will always want to explore more because traveling can never have an ending life.
